Artist: Nereus Joseph.

Nereus a native of St.Lucia was born in 1962.

In the late 60s Nereus immigrated to England, where he began his studies.

With the heavy influence of reggae surrounding him, Nereus formed his first band ‘Coptic roots’, it was in these early years that Nereus Joseph realised and developed his vocal skills.

He began his professional career as a singer in 1979. He recorded his debut single ‘roots and culture’ in the same year under oxymite records. He successfully went on to record ‘special lady’ and sensi crisis’ which topped the U.K reggae charts. The following year he recorded his debut album ‘love gonna take it’s time’ which included the two tracks ‘sensi crisis’ and ‘move on up’

Under a new label ‘fashion records’, Nereus Joseph recorded two more albums ‘yours to keep’ and ‘guidance’, which continue their contribution to the growth of the U.K reggae industry.

In the late 80s Nereus took his music to the world, he toured Europe and the Caribbean supporting top acts like Dennis Brown, Bunny Wailer and Chaka Demus and Pliers to name but a few.

In the early nineties Nereus Joseph took time out from his hectic lifestyle to seek himself, as part of this journey he returned to his native land St.Lucia. Not leaving the music behind, Nereus toured St.Lucia with Errol Bellot and other up and coming acts.

Whilst pondering on his music, he started a new crusade to deliver his message to a newer and wider audience. With this in mind, he recorded for ‘Saxon records’, ‘Original records’ plus a host of sounds, which helped to maintain his name in reggae circles. It wasn’t until his collaboration with reggae super group ‘Passion’ in 1996, with the national chart hit ‘Share your love’ on ‘charm records’, that the name Nereus Joseph began to get the praise it deserved in music circles.

Nereus went on to work with the likes of ‘Glamma Kid’ and ‘Tenor Fly,’ which produced hits such as ‘what the name of sound’ and ‘sunshine’.

In March 1997 Nereus unleashed his eagerly awaited album ‘rejoice’ which was composed and produced by some of reggae’s hottest musicians and producers and has been highly acclaimed by both the media and the general public.

In the last three years Nereus has been busy in the recording studio recording for ruff-cut and Saxon records.

Today we are in anticipation for two new albums due to be released this year.

Nereus with years of experience in the music industry recorded and produced his first album on his own label ‘Sirius records’. Again he went back to St.Lucia, this time to recruit one of St.Lucia’s rising stars ‘Ricky-D’. The input of the duo lad to the hit album ‘living in love’ which included the tracks ‘revolution’, ‘lily of 10,000’ and ‘influence of slavery’. The album was released in the Caribbean at the end of the millennium.

After that venture Nereus returned to his home in east London, where he is now working as a singer/ producer with a host of east London based artists.

He is now working on various projects with a number of singers, D.Js and some of the best producers on his block, for example Dub Judah and Wazair.

The new millennium holds many plans for Nereus, he has now produced four new albums which will be released on his Sirius records label.

Even after achieving such high levels of success that most artists would be satisfied with, Nereus remains humble and committed to recording quality music.
